The Unix System Engineer will be responsible for designing and developing integrated solutions (UNIX environment) through tools processes and procedures to facilitate the cost effective delivery of services to the customers at the site. The UNIX System Engineer will lead teams and collaborate in engineering solutions and manage complex projects through all phases of its lifecycle including hardware, firmware, software analysis, building, testing, deployment, and ensure sustainability and operational readiness for production use.
JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
o Perform testing and integration, maintenance and escalated problem resolution of systems, subsystems and components centered around various UNIX environments; including AIX, Solaris, and Linux
o Act as a leader in the organization and be able to communicate on a technical and managerial groups
o Assist in providing Tier III and IV support for various UNIX environments running Linux, AIX and Solaris
o Design and development of integrated solutions in accordance with corporate standards and products
o Assist engineering leadership to evaluate technical and cost benefit analysis for hardware, firmware, software analysis, integration, testing, design, and deployment
o Assist in analyzing and resolving basic program deficiencies and conduct testing to enhance performance
o Build, engineer, install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot UNIX systems
o Evaluate current procedures tools and hardware in order to collaborate with support team to introduce and integrate new technologies for a more cost effective environment
o Implements and document processes and procedures to ensure compliance with standard business practices
o Assist in the implementation of training tools and documentation
o Ensure maintainable end-to-end solution by providing operation support to testing
o Perform 2nd-Tier trouble shooting and on-call technical support
REQUIREMENTS
o Two (2) years' experience as a systems engineer in a complex datacenter environment.
o Bachelor's degree in System Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering Science, Engineering Management, or related discipline from an accredited college or university is required.
o Engineering experience with a variety of UNIX platforms, including AIX, SOLARIS and LINUX
o Experience working with design principles and applications
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
o Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
o Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, computer science, management information systems, systems engineering or related field preferred
o Two or more years of experience in systems engineering, software engineering, operating systems programming, or naval architecture.
o Experience working with computer hardware, operating system software and desktop applications with a specific concentration in one or more areas
o Experience working with one or more structured programming languages
o Experience working with hardware or software design methods and processes
o Experience working with design principles and applications
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
o Basic analytical and creative problem solving skills for creation and testing of software systems
o Basic organization skills to balance and prioritize work
o Basic communication skills to provide systems diagnoses and resolution for current systems
o Basic interpersonal skills to interact with customers, senior level personnel, and team members
o Ability to work independently and as part of a team
o Ability to integrate hardware and software systems
